Guinea fowls are said to be in abundance in Bolga and UE. Almost every local house has a guinea fowl. #CurateBolga

Guinea Fowls

There is an opinion that Bolga men are aggressive please this is a big lie. People are only intimidated by our stature #CurateGhana

Gruune is a language spoken by Gruunes aka Frafras. There are  basically found in southern Burkina and 5 districts in UER #CurateBolga

Upper East is full of diverse cultural background. Gruunes (Frafras) Kusasis, Talensis, Namdams,Kassenas, Bisas, Bulsas etc #CurateBolga

There are so many untapped tourist attractions in Bolga. Tindonmolgo rocks, Estate dam, crafts village, Bolga market and more. #CurateBolga

People from south come and don't want to go back just because of the hospitality and the food.  #CurateBolga

Bolga weather is moderate, people are scared because of what they hear from the media. It's only in March and early April that is hot. #CurateBolga

Bolga has changed a lot within d past decade. Most of the new structures are at the outskirts which holds the beauty of Bolga. #CurateBolga

King Ayisoba, Atongo, Komfo Kwadie, Efya, Atimbila are some musicians from Bolga. #CurateBolga

I'm so excited to be your curator for the day. Fasten your seat belts as I take you on a ride around Bolga #CurateBolga

You can ask your questions & I will gladly try to answer them for you.

#CurateBolga

I'm currently working at the Regional Planning Unit as a Development Planning Officer & I have some awesome colleagues #CurateBolga

These are are my colleagues at work sharing a selfie before work.

#CurateBolga

I moved to Bolga about 8 months ago & I've enjoyed every day of those 8 months here #CurateBolga

Bolgatanga, colloquially known as Bolga, is the capital of the Upper East Region of Ghana. #CurateBolga

Bolgatanga has a settlement population of 131,551 people.Make that 131,552 now with my addition #CurateBolga

Whereas other towns & cities struggle with congestion Bolga is relatively traffic-free & one can easily move about in the town #CurateBolga

Bolga is a very peaceful & quiet town which I'm growing to love each & every day #CurateBolga

Bolgatanga is a very cosmopolitan town inhabited by diverse people #CurateBolga

Let's take a quick break because the Adhaan has just been called for the weekly Muslim Jummah prayers. #CurateBolga

Jummah Mubarak. Here is a glimpse of the Central mosque which is shaping up to be the biggest mosque in Gh

Bikers & Car users are ever ready to offer you a 'lift' due to the hospitable nature of the everyday life in Bolga

There abound in Bolga lots of places to sate your appetite. Legacy Kitchen,Swap Restaurant,Jubilee Chop Bar & Lovely sisters are just a few

Let's take a breather here as I grab a bottle each  of some chilled 'Sobolo' & 'Zunkom'.

#CurateBolga

'Sobolo' & 'Zumkom' are popular locally brewed beverages that are rich in energy & most importantly are made of only natural ingredients.

These are the scenes from a typical market day in Bolga with traders busily trading in hand-woven baskets & hats

Now let me take to a spot where past & future meet.
This is a modernized local building.#CurateBolga

The Nubian Vault technique is based on an ancient method of timber-free vault construction, originating in Upper Egypt..

It uses only earth bricks & earth mortar and has been adapted to contemporary conditions. #CurateBolga

Given the scarcity of timber & straw for western style house construction, the Nubian Vault is surely the answer for protecting our already depleted northern Savannah. Plus it's so cheap & can serve as affordable housing for our rural folks especially.

There's friendly banter between the Dagaabas,Waalas & Gruni people in Bolga here. #CurateBolga

To my Football fans looking to catch a live game in a serene atmosphere, you can do so at Black Star Hotel..#CurateBolga

If you're hip like @Raffmeister23 don't worry Soul train night club is there for you to jam all your weekly exertions away #CurateBolga

A day out at the Paga Crocodile Pond #CurateBolga

Bolgatanga & the Upper East region in general has a lot of tourist destinations, most notably the crocodile pond at Paga

I'm really very honoured to have spent my day with you all, it was fun and exciting.
#CurateBolga

I wish to dedicate today's #CurateBolga session to the memory of our good friend Fareed Anbang Ibrahim. Gone but will never be forgotten.

I'm Saaka Muizdeen Oliman & u can follow me on Twitter & IG on @smuizzgh. You can also find me on Facebook as Saaka "Muizz" Oliman

It's been wonderful hanging out with you guys today.
Have a nice weekend & please stay & play safe.

Bio

Curator's Tweets

Yello, Ye farafara, ye bilika bilika. Dats a greeting in Gurune, the native language of d people of @BOLGATANGA which when translated means Good Morning.

It is a beautiful bright sunny morning in Bolga the capital city of the UER and this our maiden edition of #curate_Bolga for the year 2016.

I welcome u all to this maiden edition of #CurateBolga. I am Frederic Baada Junior and I will be your curator for the next couple of hours.

I am a resident of Bolgatanga and I work at the Bolgatanga Polytechnic as a senior Library Assistant. That's to say I'm a Librarian. #curateBolga

This session not only promises to be interesting but also educative as we are going to be telling you a lot you never knew about UER #CurateBolga

We are also going to break the negative stereotypes and misconceptions often held about the UER in the next couple of hours. #CurateBolga

As u may all know the upper East Region is one of the 10 regions in Ghana and it has Bolgatanga as its administrative capital. #CurateBolga

Contrary to popular misconception dat UER is very far as though the region  is not located within Ghana, Bolga is just North of Tamale.#CurateBolga

It takes an hour and a half to drive from Tamale to  Bolga on its new constructed asphalt road through Walewale. #CurateBolga

One of the interesting places you can visit in Bolga is the famous Paga crocodile pond for those of u who have never been there. #curateBolga

The paga crocodile pond is considered a sacred crocodile sanctuary. Although crocodiles are considered the wild creatures. #CurateBolga

With a little as GHC 5, u could be having a swell time siting at the back of a crocodile without any fear after d sacrifice of a fowl #CurateBolga

That's me having a swell time with the crocodiles. #CurateBolga

If u still find urself within the North-eastern corner of d UER, den u need to visit d paga-Nania slave camp still in paga. #CurateBolga

If you still find yourself within the north-eastern border of Ghana theres are some tourist sites you can still visit. #CurateBolga

They include d mystery dam of kayoro called Kukula and the Nasaga Game Reserves which is 8km away frm Burkina Faso and Paga #CurateBolga

Another place of interest worth visiting in Bolga is the Tongo hills and Tengzug shrine. #CurateBolga

The Tongo hills and Tengzug shrine are located in the village of Tengzug. #CurateBolga

Tengzug

If u find urself in Nalerigu, d ancient defence wall is an interesting site u need to visit and refresh your memory of history #CurateBolga

The ancient defence wall was a local bastion indicating that d slave route passed close by its way from Djeane n Ouagadougou.  #CurateBolga

It is therefore imperative to mention that slave trade does not only have its antecedence in Southern Ghana but also Northern Ghana.  #CurateBolga

The Naa Gbewaa’s shrine is also an interesting place 2 visit. This traditional shrine commemorates Naa Gbewaa @ Purina in d UER #CurateBolga

For those of you who maybe familiar with your history lessons Naa Gbewaa founded the Mole-Dagbon tribe in the 13th century.  #CurateBolga

Som of d main dishes of d ppl of Bolga include T.Z, Rice Balls wit gnut soup or green leaves soups, rice n cowpea, ‘kooko’ with ‘koose’.

After a  meal u can get urself a calabash of chilled ‘zom kom’ or 'pito' both beverages n made frm nutritious millet 4 desert. #CurateBolga

Here is a calabash of pito brewed from wholesome millet smiling @ u wit all its glory 😂😎 #CurateBolga

Embedded image permalink
Pito

There are a lot of artifacts and historic relics you need to see there. Relics dating back to the 18th century. #CurateBolga

Popular amongst des hotels is the tap hotel located at Bolga soe. #CurateBolga

                     Embedded image permalink

Alternatively u could lodge at the Blue sky hotel located in Zuarungu. Beauriful hotel ryt? 😎#CurateBolga

                        Embedded image permalink

As u myt already b aware d UER is a famous centre 4 handicrafts, straw hats, baskets, leather goods, metal jewellery n smocks. #CurateBolga

As I earlier on indicated, if u looking for smocks, metal jewellery, leather sandals and straws look no further than the upper East Region.

N we rock the best fashion with our locally made products unno.Jux check dis lady in her customised smock.

                                 Embedded image permalink

Beautiful right? U can follow @TangaGh_Couture 4 ur own customised smocks fit to specifications. D best indeed frm east

                                                Embedded image permalink

Check out how these gentlemen rock thier straw hats? Beautiful right? In UER we take fashion to a new level.#CurateBolga

                            Embedded image permalink

Fun fact: Did u kno the Bolga regional library boasts of having one of the best architectural designs in the world?

                          Embedded image permalink

It was designed by J. Max Bond. One of the greatest and famous architects in the world. #CurateBolga

                        Embedded image permalink

Some of the tertiary Schools include d UDS , Bolga Poly where I work and  private universities such as the Millar Open University. #CurateBolga

I hope it's been an educative and interactive edition of curate Bolga. It's been fulfilling to me. Let's us know how you feel about today's edition.
